Internationally-Recognised

FIRST LEGO League is an internationally recognized STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) organised by FIRST and The LEGO Group for children and students. In a competition based setting, students use LEGO Education robotics sets to develop robots and compete against each other in a competition which exposes students to real world problem solving, STEAM and character development.

Real-World Challenges faced in Industries

Each season starts in August and ends in April the next year. FIRST determines a real-world theme for the year around which the competition revolves and the challenges based on.

Recommended for Portfolio Building

Certificates of participation & Awards from FLL are internationally recognized and good to have in the portfolio for Direct School Admission (DSA) or Scholarship applications.

FIRST® LEGO® League Explore: 6 - 9 years old

FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge: 9 - 16 years old

FLL Explore (Ages 6-9)

FIRST LEGO League Explore (FLLE) (formerly known as FIRST Lego League Jr.) is a non-competitive robotics program designed for children ages 6-9. It is one of the programs established by FIRST.

FIRST LEGO League Explore follows the same theme given to the FIRST LEGO League Challenge. While FIRST LEGO League Challenge teams conduct research projects and design autonomous robots specifically to carry out missions relating to the topic, FIRST LEGO League Explore teams conduct much smaller projects and make robotics models out of LEGO Education SPIKE Essential, the latest robotics set by LEGO Education to illustrate one part of the theme.

Each team will have a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 participants.
Recommended 2 pax/team due to Safety Measurement Restrictions.

The FIRST LEGO League Challenge (formerly known as FIRST LEGO League) is an international competition organized by FIRST for elementary and middle school students (ages 9–14 in the United States and Canada, 9–16 elsewhere). Each year in August, FIRST LEGO League Challenge teams are introduced to a scientific and real-world challenge for teams to focus and research on. The robotics part of the competition involves designing and programming LEGO Education Robotics Sets (SPIKE Prime, EV3, NXT)  to complete tasks. The students work out a solution to a problem related to the theme (changes every year) and then meet for regional, national and international tournaments to compete, share their knowledge, compare ideas, and display their robots.

Each team will have a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 participants.
Recommended 2 pax/team due to Safety Measurement Restrictions.

At the LEGO® Education SPIKE Prime Masterclass, your child will learn the full spectrum of uses, techniques, concepts and skills required to effectively create problem-solving robots & real-world prototypes using the LEGO Education SPIKE Prime set.

What Your Child Will Learn

The SPIKE Prime Masterclass programme consists of 2 Levels, as part of the 4 Levels of the LEGO Education Learning System:

Level 1 - Guided Learning with Science Context (WeDo 2.0 Set/ SPIKE Essential)
Level 2 - Open-ended Projects with Computational Thinking (WeDo 2.0/ SPIKE Essential)
Level 3 - Guided Learning with STEAM Context (SPIKE Prime)
Level 4 - Open-ended Projects with Python Programming (SPIKE Prime)

At Level 3, students will be introduced to the different parts available and how to use them in simple to intermediate level projects. The programme starts off with a mandatory introductory lesson (7 Hours) and students can choose their specialisations for subsequent lessons (14 Hours).  where they will learn various science concepts along with mathematics, engineering and building skills.

At Level 4, students would have a good grasp of the SPIKE Prime set. Students will start off by converting their Ultimate Projects from word-block programming to Python programming stacks. Instructors will then pose weekly challenges in various themes that students will attempt to solve using the SPIKE Prime set and Python programming. The challenges will surround real-world issues such as prosthetics, global transportation, space exploration, food delivery systems and more. Students get to build original ideas and also learn to communicate their thought process and operations of their models. Instructors will guide with troubleshooting and reflection process to build resilience, critical thinking skills and boost their creativity process through useful prompts.

Talent Development & Progression

Upon graduating the LEGO Education SPIKE Prime Masterclass Programme, students are encouraged to continue to the LEGO Education SPIKE Prime Masterclass Programme and join the FIRST LEGO League Singapore, an annual national robotics competition using SPIKE Prime robots.

 FAQ

1. Can I have a trial lesson for my child to see if he/she likes it?

Yes, you can. We charge $46/hr for trial lessons. We recommend a 1 to 1.5hr session for trial lessons. Book any day/time you like.

2. My child has experience with WeDo 2.0/SPIKE Essential. Is SPIKE Prime very similar?

The SPIKE Prime set works similarly to the SPIKE Essential in terms of hardware. However, the level of difficulty of the projects for SPIKE Prime is higher than SPIKE Essential.

The SPIKE Prime set is very different from the WeDo 2.0 set in terms of hardware and not all electronic hardware can be used seamlessly together, unlike the SPIKE Essential. However, the level of difficulty of the projects for SPIKE Prime is higher than WeDo 2.0 Set.

3. My child has experience with SPIKE Prime. Can he/she skip Level 4?

If your child has only attended one-off workshops for SPIKE Prime, your child may not be fully equipped for Level 4 as it requires a full mastery of basic & intermediate concepts. You can opt for a trial lesson for our instructor to do an assessment of your child's abilities.

If your child has gone through a comprehensive training session in school, please provide a certificate of completion of the programme to be considered for more advanced level/s.

4. If my child can't make it for that week, will there be a makeup session?

Yes, your child can makeup for missed sessions before the next weekly lesson.

5. What is the class schedule like?

Please contact our class coordinator at 9822 5921.
