Advance to Programming – Lesson plan outline:

 

Activity 1: Scavenger hunt (45 minutes)

Materials needed: Pencils, Sticky notes (3 colors)Worksheet 3.1, KUBO Robot, Movement TagTiles, Coding+ TagTiles, Activity Map and Library Activity Map

By the end of this section, your students or children will be able to:

♦  Use the TagTiles to become familiar with the map.

 

Review vocabulary:

♦   Coding+ TagTile®

♦   Direction TagTile

♦   Distance TagTile

♦   Speed TagTile

♦   Time TagTile

 

NEW Vocabulary:

♦   Destination

♦   Makerspace

♦   Plot

♦   Scavenger hunt

 

Activity 2: Multiple subroutines (45 minutes)

Materials needed: KUBO Robots, Movement TagTiles, Coding+ TagTiles, Red and blue Play and Record Function TagTiles, Green and orange Record and Play Function TagTiles and Gym Activity Map

By the end of this section, your students or children will be able to:

♦   Create multiple subroutines embedded within other functions.

♦   Function

♦   Play Function TagTile

Activity 3: Pseudocode (45 minutes)

Materials needed: Pencils, Worksheet 3.3KUBO Robot, Movement TagTiles, Coding+ TagTiles and Green, orange, blue and red Record and Play Function TagTiles.

By the end of this section, your students or children will be able to:

♦   Create pseudocode to plan more complex movements for KUBO.

Activity 4: Dance off (45 minutes)

Materials needed: Pencils, Worksheet 3.3, KUBO Dance Scoring SheetKUBO Robot, Movement TagTiles, Coding+ TagTiles and Green, orange, blue and red Record and Play Function TagTiles.

By the end of this section, your students or children will be able to:

♦  Create code for KUBO to compete in the dance competition.
