Advance to Programming – Lesson plan outline:

 

Activity 1: New Routes (45 minutes)

Materials needed: Pencils, Worksheet 2.1, Worksheet 2.2KUBO Robot, Movement TagTiles, Coding+ TagTiles and Gym Activity Map

By the end of this section, your students or children will be able to:

♦   Learn how the Coding+ TagTiles® work.

♦   Observe how KUBO moves.

♦   Create routes for KUBO to follow using the Coding+ TagTiles.

 

Review vocabulary:

♦   Debug

♦   KUBO

♦   Movement TagTiles

♦   Route

 

NEW Vocabulary:

♦   Coding+ TagTile

♦   Direction TagTile

♦   Distance TagTile

♦   Gym activity map

♦   Speed Tagtile

♦   Time Tagtile

 

Activity 2: New functions (45 minutes)

Materials needed: KUBO Robot, Movement TagTiles, Coding+ TagTiles, Coding+ Play and Recor Function TagTiles and Gym Activity Map

By the end of this section, your students or children will be able to:

♦   Transition routes into functions using Coding+TagTiles®.

♦   Get KUBO from one given location to another using a function.

 

Review vocabulary:

♦   Function

♦   Record Function TagTile®

♦   Play Function TagTile

♦   Reset

 

NEW vocabulary

♦   Vice versa

 

Activity 3: New subroutines (45 minutes)

Materials needed: KUBO Robot, Movement TagTiles, Coding+ TagTiles, Coding+ Play and Recor Function TagTiles and Gym Activity Map

By the end of this section, your students or children will be able to:

♦   Turn two functions into a subroutine using the Coding+ TagTiles®.

♦   Create functions and subroutines without creating routes first.

 

Review Vocabulary:

♦   Subroutine

♦   Tweak

 

Activity 4: New loops and recursive functions (45 minutes)

Materials needed: KUBO Robot, Movement TagTiles, Coding+ TagTiles, Coding+ Play and Recor Function TagTiles, Loop and Parameter TagTiles and Gym activity map.

By the end of this section, your students or children will be able to:

♦   Work with loops that contain Coding+ TagTiles®

♦   Create a function that contains a loop and Coding+ TagTiles.

 

Review vocabulary:

♦   Loop

♦   Parameter TagTile®

 

NEW vocabulary:

♦   Close loop TagTile

♦   Open loop TagTile

♦   Recursive function

By the end of this section, students should be able to:

♦ Demonstrate and understand how Coding+ TagTiles® work.
